The Custom House Maritime Museum was designed by America's first federal architect, Robert Mills (1781-1855), who is best- known as creator of the national Washington Monument. Behind the museum's original granite exterior lies New London's most unexpected interior, every aspect of which reflects Robert Mill's architectural ingenuity and desire to create a truly fireproof setting for the City's US Customs office. Its gallery rooms are suitable for small or medium-sized dinners and receptions.
