On July 14, 2006, at 7 pm, a new exhibition opened at the Custom House Maritime Museum as part of a city-wide celebration of the 125th anniversary of New London's daily newspaper: "Maritime History in the Pages of The Day."
The new exhibition features the following maritime stories
as reported in past issues of The Day:
1903: launching of the Minnesota, the largest ship in
the world at that time;- 1916: visit of the Deutschland;
- 1938: Hurricane Extra;
- 1938: Hurricane photo section;
- 1941: arrival in Mystic of the Charles W. Morgan;
- 1954: launching of the Nautilus;
- 1963: loss of the Thresher;
- 2000: Opsail
