Plaques mounted on the front of the Custom House
Sign marking the 1839 Amistad landing.  The boat was moored off shore in Green's Harbor, the cargo off-loaded here and the captives taken to New Haven where they were jailed for years, awaiting the outcome of their landmark trial. Eventually, the cargo was sold in auction at the Custom House and the captives were set free.

The front doors of the Custom House are made of wood obtained during a restoration of the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides).
