Caribbean Calypso Night - June 24, 2006

A palm tree on South Water Street gives quite a different look to the Custom House Maritime Museum.
Before the tent filled with people and the party began . . .
With Goslings, Barritts and CocaCola of New London as faithful sponsors, Dark and Stormies were the # 1 drink of choice for this maritime related fund raiser with rum & cokes coming in a close second!
Once we stabilized the electrical system that was reacting to the monsoon related dampness, delicious Caribbean inspired foods by East Coast Catering
and haunting calypso melodies
by Steel Rhythm provided hours of pleasant diversion.
Old friends made new friends,
new friends met old friends,
and old friends caught up with each other.
Many thanks to our GOLD SPONSOR, CHELSEA GROTON SAVINGS BANK.
Also thanks to our SILVER SPONSORS,
Steve Tavares, owner of Affordable Mortgage Company of Waterford;
Mel Foti, President of the Bank of Southeastern Connecticut of New London; (pictured above); Citizens Bank and Liberty Bank
Thanks also go out to the donors of our raffle items:

  • a ladies and mens duffel bag from      Klingerman Travel of New London
  • a gift certificate for one wine class from The Divine Wine Emporium of Niantic
  • two tickets from Captain John for a Day Sail on the Mystic Whaler
Many thanks also to our head Docent, Bill LaRoue, who gave guided tours throughout the evening of all four stories of the Custom House Maritime Museum. The tours even included sneak peeks of our basement and sub basement levels - the work and storage areas not usually included on tours to the general public. Pictured here are the bare brick vaulted ceilings found in the two basement levels and the plaster over brick vaults seen in the top two levels of the 1833 Custom House.
